IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to the prolonged heat wave, below-average rainfall, and recent flooding that damaged high-service pumps and a well, the City of Bordentown Water Department has issued temporary mandatory restrictions on outdoor water use for residents and businesses located within Bordentown City, Bordentown Township, and Fieldsboro.
The Water Department assures that this recent series of events has not impacted the quality of water being produced; however it has affected the pressure of the water that the city normally delivers.
In order to ensure that the City can continue to meet the existing water consumption demands by residential and commercial customers, the Water Department is proactively instituting a series of mandatory temporary steps to reduce and conserve water consumption. These measures, combined with a number of short- and long-term repairs and improvements, are designed to remedy the current situation.
Pursuant to Bordentown City’s existing code, and in consultation with the Department of Environmental Protection, effective immediately, all customers of Bordentown Water Department and Fieldsboro Water Department – this includes residents and businesses located within Bordentown City, Bordentown Township, and Fieldsboro – are required to adhere to the following restrictions on outdoor water use at all times:
Car washing, pressure washing, and other non-landscape outdoor water uses:
Properties may only use water for this purpose two days per week:
Properties with even number addresses may only use water for the above purpose on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Properties with odd number addresses may only use water for the above purpose on Thursdays and Sundays.
Lawn watering with a hose or hose-end sprinkler:
Properties may only use water for this purpose two days per week:
Properties with even number addresses may only use water for the above purpose on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Properties with odd number addresses may only use water for the above purpose on Thursdays and Sundays.
Watering shall only be conducted between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. or between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
The watering of any single area shall not exceed thirty minutes per each day.
No hose or hose-end sprinkler watering it permitted when it is raining.
Flowers and shrubs
Flowers and shrubs may be watered as needed with a hand-held hose equipped with an automatic shut-off nozzle.
Properties may also use water irrigated with drip or micro-irrigation for this purpose as needed.
Irrigating lawns and landscapes with automatic irrigation systems equipped with a conventional irrigation controller:
Properties may only use water for this purpose two days per week:
Properties with even number addresses may only use water for the above purpose on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Properties with odd number addresses may only use water for the above purpose on Thursdays and Sundays.
Irrigation shall only be conducted between the hours of 12:00 A.M. and 10:00 A.M.
Operation of any irrigation zone equipped with spray (mist) heads shall not exceed 15 minutes per zone each day. Operation of any irrigation zone equipped with rotary sprinkler heads shall not exceed 50 minutes per zone each day.
The city anticipates these requirements to remain in effect until the end of the high-use summer season and will notify residents when they have been lifted.
